Cowes Dinghy Week 2010

We have been having a fabulous week! This is the week of dinghy sailing, and I have been having a blast. For those of you who know me, this is unusual because I am scared of the ocean, and it is freezing. I still take a breath every time I have to launch the boat. This sea is less scary though, no huge waves like in Durban. Except for yesterday, the sea was heaving with huge rollers, 6 foot high! I was loving it! I am stiff today though. This was the first day of Dinghy week, I was on the shore taking photos.

This is a moth dinghy, it is beautiful to watch. These aren't my photos, I tried to catch the guys out on the water, but they were too far for my little camera. They actually sail out of the water.

Watch this video, it is amazing, The Moth Dinghy These are my photos, they have to launch from a capsized position otherwise they may damage the hydro foils. This is the boat before the foils are attached, you can see why it is called a moth, I like it.
The photos seem to have come in backwards, but if I rearrange them they wont enlarge when you click on them, so here they are in no particular order. Pete after his race, he came 4th (remember he has only been sailing for three months! He is so competitive).

Just after he had launched.
During the race,
Just launched again, (not that he launched twice, it's just the next photo of that event :)
Ok, these ones are in order, can you see what a poor start Pete had, he was very annoyed about that. This one is just as the siren blew, and they're off!

This is them jockeying for position at the start line, just as the one minute siren has gone off.
I took this photo to show how everyone helps out, the old lady and the young boy are all Pete's competitors, but they will all help everyone out. I love it.
Cheryn and Corbin throwing pebbles into the sea.

Would you like the job of sorting this mess out? I tell you it is amazing how they actually know where the trollies are, and this is in some sort of order.
I wish we could get a picture of Pete and I sailing together, but I don't think that is going to happen, you'll just have to believe that I have been having a great time.
