9 Weeks of Summer holidays

Yesterday Pete went on a bike ride and set up a treasure hunt for us to do today. He took £1 for each of us and put them in a tin and buried them under a tree at the beach. Then gave us clues to follow, things that he saw along the way that could be turned into an answer of what to do with the money.

So first we had to follow the clues to get the treasure, then follow more clues to find out what to do with the treasure. We had to look on signs, graffiti and place markers to get all the letters required. After a long walk all the way from our house into town we had all the letters and knew where to go. They were M. A. U. D. S. (That's a really nice ice-cream shop in town)

But CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! When we got there they were closed due to an electrical fault! Pete came to fetch us and we dropped the kids off at Roberts (the local news agent or cafe) and they spent their money on sweets instead.

A great time was had by all, the kids really enjoyed figuring out the clues and running along the path to find the next ones. (unfortunately I forgot my camera so these are mobile phone pics)

Reading the clues
We are on our way
Counting the squares to find the next letter
A building in a cage, look on the sign
Enjoying the cool spray from the fountain on a hot day
Playing in the park
Enjoying some food at Burger King

Happy birthday Corbin

He is 7 years old now! They grow up so fast. He opened his toys in the morning and then in the afternoon we went to the Summer fare down by the marina. We all had a good time, unfortunately I didn't get any pics of Corbin on the bumper cars, Pete, Corb, Cher and Zeek all went together bumping each other around, what fun.
Remember this? My mom always put Ivy around our place at supper time on our birthdays.
Cheryn went with Corbin on this ride.
Cheryn looks bored because she has NO idea what she is in for!
A brilliant ride!!

First visit to England

My mom paid for me to come and visit my sister in England in 2001. There are three very prominent memories of that trip in my mind. And here they are:

It was in the middle of Winter and I remember thinking that I had never been so cold in my life. When I left the airport I felt like the cold had punched me in the chest. Angela had brought a spare coat for me to borrow and I was very grateful!

Then when we were driving back from the airport I couldn't believe how dirty all the cars were. I later found out that it is because of the salty mixture that they put onto the roads to prevent ice from building up. Then I couldn't believe that these people don't wash their cars, I mean it's not that much of a job. (PS. My car was filthy this Winter because it's too cold for me to go out and wash my car)

The third memory is of all the moss. I love moss, in fact I tried to grow a moss garden in my mom's garden as a little girl. There was moss everywhere, on the pavement, on the road, on the walls, on the roofs, I think if you sat down for long enough the moss could grow on you!

Last night I was looking out of our window at another beautiful sunset and noticed the moss on our roof and had all those memories flooding back. It was a great holiday, thanks Ange for always being so hospitable.

And so it begins.....

The diligent children

Zeek and Rachel come home from school and sit down and do their homework. I never have to ask them. The other day I came into the front entrance and found Rach there being diligent again.

Bangor Maritime Festival

We went down to the marina in Bangor to have a look at the 'pirate ships' as the kids called them. They were beautiful to behold. Two wooden three masted ships, and a tiny pirate ship sailing around the harbour. It seems that this is the only way that Pete will ever get any hair!
Should I be the Captain for a while?
A diet seems in order for these two girls.
Which rope was I supposed to untie again?

Cheryn at her sports day

Cheryn had her school sports day yesterday, due to a mix up of times I got there after her event, she did long jump. but here is a pic of her at the track in her PE uniform.

This one is for you Jenny

My son Corbin (who is 6 - in fact 7 next week) did this lovely artwork on his sheet, because he couldn't find any paper! So after asking him about his pic, (some sailors on a ship) we decided that we are going to Tesco after school to get him one of those artists sketch pads and he has said that he will only draw on paper from now on.

Zeek's sports

The other event that he took part in was the relay, they came second. Zeek got through to the finals on the long jump.

Sporty Zeek again

Zeek is quite the athlete. He was chosen to participate in the inter-school athletics meet. He participated in the long jump and cricket ball toss (just like shot put, except its a cricket ball) And something else but I missed it because I had to go and fetch Corbin from school. The final is on Friday, but I don't know if his school will get in, I'll find out when Zeek gets home.

The date that wasn't meant to be

Pete and I went out last night, for dinner and a movie. Sounds like a nice simple date, well things can get a lot more complicated than you think.

We got to the movie house and the one movie we wanted to watch wasn't showing because the projector was broken.

Then we went to the restaurant and when we got to the door we were told that we couldn't be served for at least the next half hour because the gas supply to the kitchen had been interrupted somehow.

So we thought we would get Burger King take out and a DVD. The DVD purchase went well, but when we got to Burger King I asked for a Fanta Orange and was told that the machine wasn't working!

Can you believe our luck - or should I say lack there of. We hope the next date will go better.

Cheryn's trip to the London Temple

We flew to Gatwick airport on Friday night. Spent Saturday morning at the temple and the afternoon just lazing around in the sunshine and playing badminton. Then after church on Sunday we had a lovely lunch outside in the garden, then flew home that night. Cheryn had a good time, and I really enjoyed spending the time with Angela and Patrick (we stayed at their house) Thank you for your hospitality and making it a good experience for Cheryn.

P.S.

The picture of the shark and the scuba divers is a photo shopped one. And they have made the shark look a lot bigger than it actually was, however there are quite a few 7m sharks on record that have been caught. Just take a moment to pace that out in your garden and see what you think. Here is the original photo:
